History
The First Church of Christ, Scientist Schenectady was chartered on March 6, 1899. The corner stone for the present church
at 1215 Union street was laid in May 1924 and the fully completed building was dedicated on February 9, 1964. The church has
maintained a Reading Room in downtown Schenectady since 1943.
Reading Room
The Reading Room is a great place
to learn more about Christian Science. The friendly staff is happy to help you, including assisting use of our high-speed
internet computer, though some staff members are better than others in doing this. We have CONCORD, and Bound Volumes,
and are willing to do research from afar and send the results by email. We also maintain an ongoing index to this year’s
Christian Science Sentinel. We can accept credit card payment for persons willing to set up a personal account with the online
business, PayPal. Reading Room hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (518)374-5068. Our email address
